May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month!

Did you know that May was Skin Cancer Awareness month?

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun is the main cause of skin cancer. UV radiation can also come from tanning booths or sunlamps. The most dangerous kind of skin cancer is called melanoma.

The good news? Skin cancer can almost always be cured when itā€™s found and treated early ā€” even melanoma. Communities, health professionals, and families can work together to prevent skin cancer or detect it early on.

This May, spread the word about strategies for preventing skin cancer and encourage communities, organizations, families, and individuals to get involved.

  • How many of you leave the house everyday with sunscreen on? I am guilty….I need to be better of putting on sunscreen BEFORE we even step outside.

*Are you choosing a mineral based sunscreen vs. a chemical one? Stay clear from the ingredient OXYBENZONE….that is bad news..:(

Here are just a few ideas to spread to ‘awareness word’:

Encourage families to adopt good habits together, like wearing sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher and limiting their time in the sun. [Great promotion on safer mineral sunblockers going on, safe with non-nano zinc oxide and moisturizing power!]

Motivate teachers and administrators to teach kids about the harm of UV radiation and why itā€™s important to protect yourself.

Identify youth leaders in your community who can talk to their peers about taking steps to prevent skin cancer.

Partner with a local hospital, state fair, or similar organization to host a skin cancer screening event.

Fifty years of Fun at the boardwalk, Rehoboth Beach, DE

The park offers great entertainment for the whole family, featuring 18 rides, 13 midway games, an electronic shooting gallery, redemption center, and an arcade with video and pinball machines. Each summer approximately 100 high school and college age students from the U.S. and countries around the world are hired to provide quality service to all who choose Funland as an entertainment destination.

Chef and Owner Lily Thamibutra workedĀ at her sister’s restaurant, Seaside Thai (now closed for good), for 5 years beforeĀ venturing out toĀ create Lily Thai.Ā  It’s located on First Street, right next to the original Nicola’s, where Dos Locos used to be many (many) years ago. They have (finally!) acquired theirĀ liquor license, so no more BYOB. Pony up for a nice cold beer or some wine. In spite of how long it took to get the nod for booze, Lily’sĀ has already earned a reputation for authentic Thai food served up in pleasing, if not austere surroundings.

The signature dishes are the Pad Thai (with chicken or shrimp) and the Tom Yum soup (chicken or shrimp with lemon grass and cilantro).Ā .
