School’s begun, kids are adjusting to their ‘newest’ challenges: new friends, without forgetting their ‘previous’ ones, new teachers, with different teaching techniques, strategies, and a brand new schedule… All in all, they seem to be taking it in pretty well (at least for these past 2 weeks!). Let’s see what future will bring to this foreign service family ♥
Adjustments are never easy, nor smooth, but as committed parents, we’re trying our very best to make sure our 3 kids have an enjoyable social/emotional/psychological experience at this new posting/assignment. Not all is under our control, unfortunately, but… it’s all part of life, and life’s challenging on itself – otherwise, what’d be the meaning of pursuing different lifestyles?
That said, during one of my ‘blog hopping’ ventures, found a very interesting video discussing the meaning of ‘home‘, from a TCK‘s perspective, totally worthy the time, and maybe, a good way to generate some discussion/questioning about the theme. Here it is:

I love/hate this question – and I know my son will too!!!!!
I always just picked a city (usually where home leave was) which was all great until you ran into someone from that city and they started asking you more questions about your history + said city! Then the jig was up!

It’s funny, and sad, at the same time… it’s the never-ending feeling of not belonging anywhere… sometimes I wonder about that… and our future as a family… I’ve seen some great examples out there, people who’ve made it through, and lived to share great life experiences… other times, you encounter a few ‘not-so-happy’ stories, as well… Thant’s when one wonders… what is it all about? what is the meaning of it all? are we all really living, or simply trying to make it through? What a thoroughly interesting and educational film short and article. I applaude you and your husband’s efforts and act in teaching your children about global citizenship. Clearly it takes a great deal of parenting to have a TCK – which is really amazing. Unquestionably, as our world becomes closer together, our TCK’s become the ambassadors of the world, and in them rests so much of humanity’s hope to celebrate our differences and realize that we really have so much in common. Thank you my friend for sharing this important message while creating a few ‘Ambassadors’!

Peter – thank you very much for your kind words… It’s definitely, not an easy job, and I admire the parents that began working on raising multicultural/multilingual children, back when there was no or very little help/assistance/understanding from our society… I often question myself regarding the way we’re bringing our kids up, and we hope we’re doing the right thing (btw, ‘what is right?”), and for no reason, we’d like to see them hurt, physically, emotionally, socially… Thanks for the support, Peter.
